Only about 20% of English-language Wikipedia biographies are about women,
and representation in STEM is even lower.
Many accomplished women in STEM have no page at all, while others have short stubs that pale in comparison to the detailed entries of their male counterparts.
GenAI tools draw heavily from Wikipedia and the wider web.
When women in STEM are missing or under-documnted online, AI systems perpetuate and even amplify this bias.
Ask an AI to name leading innovators, and it reflects the imbalance baked into its training data. It’s a vicious cycle: invisibility online leads to invisibility in AI, which then shapes how the next generation perceives the STEM community.
This collaborative Wikipedia Edit-a-thon brings together the Talent-CGT, Bio Partner Park, TOPX Network, and Leiden Bio Science Park communities to:
- Create and improve Wikipedia articles about women in STEM
- Highlight researchers, engineers, innovators, and entrepreneurs from our own networks
- Provide hands-on training in Wikipedia editing (no experience necessary!)
- Build lasting skills participants can keep using beyond the event
Why This Matters for Our Community

- Impact: Every article can reacs millions of readers globally – and informs the AI tools of tomorrow
