Science by the lake: Talent-CGT at the Biotechnology Summer School

Talent-CGT was pleased to support the XXIX Biotechnology Summer School, held from 21–25 September 2026 in Szarlota, Poland. This year’s theme, Cell and Gene Therapy, brought together students and early-career researchers for five days of lectures, interactive workshops, scientific discussion and activities in the beautiful lakeside setting of the Kashubia region.

Three Talent-CGT members contributed to the program as speakers and workshop leaders.

Sara Ricardo from CESPU gave a talk on Immunotherapy Biomarkers: From Concept to Practice.

Filipa Sobral from CESPU led the interactive workshop Taking Cell & Gene Therapies Further: A Hands-on Course Experience, introducing an online microcredential course in CGT and giving participants a taste of its interactive learning approach.

Sarah Opitz from Fearless League led Good Science Leaves a Trail, an interactive workshop on scientific documentation exploring how good documentation supports reproducibility, collaboration and the transfer of knowledge between researchers.

With participants ranging from bachelor’s students through to PhD researchers, there were plenty of opportunities for discussion and exchange. It was particularly interesting to hear about the students’ own interests and research projects and to see how actively they engaged with the workshops.

The wider program brought together speakers from academia and industry across different areas of cell and gene therapy, combining scientific lectures with practical and career-focused sessions. For Talent-CGT, it was a great opportunity to contribute to CGT education and connect with students and educators from across Europe.

A special thank-you to our Talent-CGT partners Andrea Lipińska and Stanisław Ołdziej at the University of Gdańsk, who helped organize the summer school, and to the wider organizing team for such a welcoming and engaging week.
