This September, Avans University of Applied Sciences is launching a new 30 EC Cell and Gene Therapy (CGT) minor, creating a dedicated opportunity for students to explore one of the fastest-developing areas of the life sciences.
The minor combines CGT theory with basic and advanced practical laboratory training and a preclinical scientific research project. Courses and projects are developed and delivered in close collaboration with CGT experts in the Netherlands. The minor builds on Avans’s wider development of cell and gene therapy education and its involvement in Talent-CGT, including practical teaching activities and Teach-the-Teacher training.
The first delivery will also provide an opportunity for Avans to evaluate how students and educators experience the program and to further refine its structure, learning activities and practical components. Materials developed through Talent-CGT will be incorporated where they add value, while elements of the minor may also be reused in other Biology and Life Sciences courses at Avans.
For Avans, the new minor represents a concrete step toward making cell and gene therapy a more visible and recurring part of life sciences education. For Talent-CGT, it is an example of how shared educational development can translate into lasting institutional change.
